The TCI Model: A Virtuous Circle

Our vision is guided by a powerful, proven framework born right here in Panama: Tourism, Conservation, and Investigation (TCI). Pioneered in 1998 by Dr. Hana Ayala and adopted as a national strategy, TCI moves beyond traditional ecotourism to create a self-sustaining, “virtuous circle.”

How it Works:

Sustainable Tourism:

Provides resources for Conservation and Investigation, and creates tourism jobs in villages that traditionally depended on extractive work like fishing, hunting, logging and cattle farming.

Conservation:

Active protection and restoration of forests, mangroves, and marine habitats. Local rangers restore biological corridors, and ensure the long-term health of the ecosystem.

Investigation:

A  living laboratory for scientists from world-renowned institutions. Their research deepens our understanding of this incredible biodiversity, and their discoveries are then woven back into our visitor experiences.
